Institute of Pig Breeding and Agro-Industrial Production

The Institute of Pig Breeding (Poltava) was founded by the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences as the All-Union Research Institute of Pig Breeding in August 1930 on the basis of the Faculty of Zootechnics and the Faculty of Industrialization of Agriculture of the Poltava Agricultural Institute, according to the order of the People's Commissariat of Agriculture of the USSR No. 156 dated July 10, 1930.
In 1944 it was renamed Poltava scientific research institute of pig breeding with the functions of the main coordinator of scientific research in the field of pig breeding of the country.
In 1991, it received the status of the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Pig Breeding. Since 1993, the Institute has been subordinated to the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences.
In 2000, the institute was named after Academician O.V. Kvasnytsky (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 13.07.2000 No. 1116).
In accordance with the resolution of the Presidium of the NAAS dated 18.05.2011 "On optimization of the network of scientific institutions of the NAAS" and the order of the NAAS No. 156 dated July 11, 2011, the Institute of Pig Breeding named after O.V. Kvasnytskyi UAAS was renamed the "Institute of Pig Breeding and Agro-Industrial Production of the NAAS".
Currently, the Institute of Pig Breeding is the only specialized research institution in Ukraine that comprehensively deals with the development of problems of the theory and practice of pig breeding, training of scientific personnel and advanced training of specialists in the industry.
According to the staff list as of 01.05.2025, there are 76 full-time employees in the structural divisions, including 49 scientists. Of these, 12 are doctors, 30 are candidates, and 7 people do not have a scientific degree. Among the scientists, there is 1 academician of the NAAS, 1 corresponding member of the NAAS, 8 professors, 2 honored scientists and engineers, and 1 honored inventor.
