Abstract

Objective. To study the reproductive capacity of two-breed sows of Danish selection at combining them with terminal boars in domestic conditions. Methods. The experimental part of the work was carried out on the basis of LLC “Veda Podillia”. In order to study the reproductive capacity of sows in three-breed combinations with terminal boars, four groups of animals were formed, consisting of two-breed sows from the combination of Landraces (L) with Large White (LW) breed with their subsequent combination with terminal boars of Duroc (D) and Pietren (P) breeds. Based on the absolute indexes, an index for a comprehensive assessment of the reproductive capacity of sows – SIVIAS – was calculated. The results of the studies were processed by the method of variational statistics. Results. The duration of farrowing was longer by 2.67–3.53 days compared with the traditionally accepted one. In terms of the number of stillborn piglets, two-breed sows LW×L were distinguished by higher values, both when combined with Duroc boars and Pietren boars (p<0.05). The combination (LW×L)×P was characterized by a higher total number of piglets born, although this difference compared to the others was insignificant. In terms of high fertility, the highest values were obtained for the combinations of two-breed sows with Duroc boars. At the same time, the two-breed LW ×L sows in their combination with Duroc boars significantly exceeded the combination (L×LW)×P by 9.32 % (p<0.05) and the combination (LW×L)×P by 8.70 % (p<0.05). The greater number of piglets that were transferred to artificial feeding was in the combinations of two-breed sows with Pietren breed boars. In terms of the indexes of the weight of the litter and the average weight of one piglet at weaning, the higher values were obtained for the combinations of two-breed sows with Duroc boars (p<0.05). The highest level of values according to the SIVIAS index was noted for the combinations of two- breed sows with Pietren breed boars. Conclusions. The results of the assessment of the reproductive capacity of two-breed sows when combined with terminal boars in domestic conditions indicate a high level of productivity of all studied combinations. At the same time, the combination of Large White x Landrace sows with Duroc boars was characterized by a higher level of values for the litter weight at weaning by 10.58 % (p<0.05), and for the average weight of one piglet at weaning – by 8.54 % (p<0.05) compared to the combinations of Landrace x Large White sows with Pietren boars. In a comprehensive assessment of the reproductive capacity of sows, the highest values of the SIVIAS index were observed in the combinations of two-breed sows with Pietren boars (124.95–125.90 points) compared to the combinations of two-breed sows with Duroc boars (118.49–124.06 points).
