Abstract
Aim. To investigate the activity o f aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine
aminotransferase (ALT) in blood serum and their relationship with fattening and meat
qualities in young pigs o f different intensity o f formation in early ontogeny. Methods.
Zootechnical, biochemical, and statistical research methods were used to achieve the
goal. Control fattening and slaughter o f young pigs o f the large white breed was carried
out at the "Druzhba-Kaznacheivka" Ltd o f the Dnipropetrovsk region and the "Jazz " meat
processing plant (Berezovskyi, Khatko, 2005), the study o f biochemical indicators o f
blood serum (Vlizlo et al., 2012) - scientific research center o f biosafety and
environmental control o f agricultural resources o f the Dnipro State Agrarian and
Economic University. The activity o f aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine
aminotransferase (ALT) was studied in the blood serum o f animals. Biometric research
results were processed according to generally accepted methods (Kovalenko et al., 2010).
The results. It has been established that the activity o f aspartate aminotransferase (AST)
and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in the blood serum o f young pigs o f the large white
breed o f the controlled population corresponds to the physiological norm o f clinically
healthy animals, and the age o f reaching a live weight o f 100 kg, the thickness o f lard at
the level o f 6 - 7 thoracic vertebrae, and the length o f the chilled carcass belongs to the
"elite" class. Taking into account the intrabreed differentiation o f young pigs according
to the "intensity offormation" index, it was established that young pigs o f experimental
group I (At=0,829 - 1,087points) prevailed over peers II (At=0,573 -к 0,813 points) in
terms o f average daily live weight gain, age o f reaching live weight 100 kg, with the
thickness o f lard at the level o f 6-7 thoracic vertebrae and the length o f the chilled carcass
by 1,25 % on average. Conclusions. It was determined that the activity o f aspartate
aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in the blood serum o f young
pigs o f the experimental groups corresponds to the physiological norm o f clinically
healthy animals, and the number o f reliable correlations with fattening and meat qualities
is 28,57 %. This indicates the possibility o f using biochemical indexes o f the blood serum
for early prediction o f quantitative signs in pigs. The criteria fo r selection o f highly
productive animals (sows and boars) according to absolute indexes o f fattening and meat
qualities o f their offspring there is their correspondence to the elite class, as well as
animals that have an index "the intensity o f formation " ranges from 0.829 to 1.087points
