State Enterprise "Experimental Farm "Stepne"

Institute of Pig Breeding and Agricultural Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences

In 1956, the former state farm "Red Army" was reorganized and became a research farm of the Poltava State Agricultural Research Station, which in turn was founded as the "Research Field" back in 1884.

Fulfilling its statutory obligations, the State Enterprise "Experimental Farm "Stepne" implements the work of scientists of the station and institutes of the NAAS network on its production areas, achieving significant results in the production of grains, legumes perennial grass crops, has a strong fodder base, which makes it possible to effectively engage in livestock and other economic activities.

The farm has 3,350 hectares of agricultural land, including 3,326 hectares of arable land. The farm keeps 1,200 cattle, of which 420 are cows, 2,000 are pigs, including 140 main sows.

The livestock of cattle and pigs raised for meat is sold as high-quality products ready for consumption thanks to the work of its own meat processing plant.

Livestock farming.

Since 2011, the farm has been subordinated to the Institute of Pig Breeding and Agroindustrial Production of the NAAS. Scientific research in pig breeding and production indicators of the industry have significantly improved.

Under the leadership of the institute, the farm has begun reconstruction of livestock facilities. A new technology for the flow production of pork is being introduced, which makes it possible to continuously grow both breeding pigs and pigs for slaughter throughout the year.

The Stepne Experimental Farm has the status of a breeding plant for breeding cattle of the Ukrainian black-and-white dairy breed and a breeding plant for breeding large white pigs.

Scientific support of production processes ensures good indicators of the livestock industry, which are growing from year to year. Thus, the milk yield per forage cow was 7126 kg per year, the average daily weight gain of cattle during fattening was 750 g, and the weight gain of pigs during fattening was 620 g. The Scientific Council of the Institute developed and approved special measures to improve these achievements.

Crop growing.

Thanks to the introduction of energy-saving technologies, better agricultural crops, scientifically based crop rotations, workers in the crop growing industry have been receiving consistently high yields in recent years.

On average, over the past five years, the grain yield has been 50.5 c/ha, including: winter wheat - 55.4 c/ha, corn for grain - 86.0 c/ha, soybeans - 21.2 c/ha, sunflower - 27.4 c/ha.

Close cooperation between science and production has also had a positive impact on economic indicators. The introduction of shallow, no-till tillage has reduced diesel fuel consumption by 35% and labor costs by 30%. The AG-4 "Scorpion-1" and AGU-4 "Scorpion-2" combined units developed, manufactured at the farm and patented have made it possible to effectively use them both on the farm's fields and in other places in the Poltava region over the past 20 years.

The farm offers for sale:

- seeds of high reproductions of winter wheat - Kosoch, Zahrava Odeska, Blagodarka Odeska, Uzhynok;

- spring barley Zdobutok;

- spring vetch Hybrid-85;
